#HandWritingTheWord : Measured To You

IMG_1304

Then He said to them, “Take heed what you hear. With the same measure you use, it will be measured to you; and to you who hear, more will be given. For whoever has, to him more will be given; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.” (Mark 4:24-25 NKJV)

Do you have measuring cups in your kitchen? I’m sure you do, and I’m sure you know that measuring cups come in different sizes.  I have some in my kitchen as small as 1/8 cups and I have a measuring bowl that holds 32 cups – it’s HUGE, I hardly ever use it.

The word measure in this passage means a vessel for receiving and determining quantity (Strong’s G3358); basically, a measuring cup.

Jesus is telling His disciple – He’s telling us – you bring the measuring cup and I will fill it up.  I believe He is saying that He’ll fill it up with understanding of His word and knowledge of Him.  This in turn will lead to greater faith in His promises and a more obedient life lived for Him.

But before Jesus begins to fill us up we must make a choice.  We must choose which measuring cup to bring, the one that holds 1/8 cup or the one that holds 32 cups.  If we only ask for a small portion of Him, that is what we’ll get.  But if we ask for the largest portion we can handle… I don’t even have words to describe or an imagination to envision what He’ll give, but I want it.

Lord, today I bring to You my largest measuring cup and ask that You fill it with You.  Please, give me a knowledge and understanding of You is that greater than I have ever known before.  Fill me up until I overflow and You spill into the lives of those around me.  In Your perfect Holy name I pray.  Amen.

I hope my thoughts help you understand how this scripture can be applied to our modern lives, but don’t just take my word for it. Dive into The Bible yourself, pray, and ask the Lord to reveal His truth to you.
